UKCG Recognises NPORS Cards at Last!

The team at Health and Safety Training are pleased to announce that one of our accrediting bodies – NPORS – is now widely recognised by the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG).

This means that any operators who train with us and receive an NPORS accreditation will have greater opportunity to find work within UKCG organisations.

This is a huge step forward in the industry for NPORS as UKCG is the primary association for major contractors, with it’s member companies accounting for over a third of all the construction work in the UK. Until now,they have only accepted Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) cards, which meant that anyone trained to operate a digger, dump truck or crane by NPORS, would not be eligible to work on a UKCG site.

This gave CPCS an advantage over the industry and many believe it led to them having an unfair monopoly which allowed them to overcharge for their training courses. Now UKCG have recognised NPORS accreditations as being of the same standard as CPCS cards, it believes the two approved card schemes will allow fairer competition for jobs and training, which will promote efficiency and make site management easier and more productive.

NPORS cards have always had a presence in other trades and industries, including ports, harbours, utilities and factories, but the increased recognition has opened the door for all NPORS accredited workers, giving them chance to work on some of the biggest construction sites and projects, that they wouldn’t previously have had access to.

Huw Jones, the Technical, Training and Standards Director at NPORS believes UKCG’s decision to recognise the NPORS card, is a direct reflection of the increased quality of NPORS training as well as it’s rising credibility within construction.
