Health & Safety North Event

In 2007, Western Business Exhibition launched a series of safety events with the aim of bringing together the very best representatives of the health and safety industry in the UK.

These events are carefully planned to ensure ease of access for visitors from all over the country, with the main event at the NEC in Birmingham, as well as events in the North and Scotland.

The Health & Safety North event will be held in Bolton this year, on the 8th and 9th of October, and has been specifically developed for people in all industries and at all levels, who have a responsibility for health and safety at work.

The main purpose is to provide a platform for exhibitors to share straightforward and reliable advice with peers, colleagues, employers and professionals. The event has become hugely popular in recent years, not only because it is free to attend, but because the quality of vendors is so high, with some of the most well-respected safety groups, stakeholders and industry specialists in attendance.

Health & Safety issues, hazards & solutions

This year will see a host of speakers encouraging dialogue that will cover a whole range of health and safety issues, hazards and solutions.

Ian Travers, the Deputy Director at the Chemicals Regulation Directorate, for the Health and Safety Executive will be kicking off the conference at The USN Bolton Arena on the 8th of October. He will be discussing corporate governance and getting to grips with significant safety risks.

Drawing on his many years of experience, he will be sharing his knowledge from the major hazard sector, offering advice and guidance to senior executives about how to keep the focus on business vulnerability and how to keep risks at bay.

Other speakers at the event include Shaun Curry and Harry Gallagher, who are the Heads of Behavioral Safety at Macnaughton McGregor. Their programme, titled ‘Drama – Safety Leadership and Culture,’ aims to get people thinking about creating interdependent safety cultures that encourage employee engagement.

Although this is already commonly accepted as the next step in maintaining and upholding a safe working environment, putting this step into action is notoriously difficult. But Gallagher and Curry will use their unique method of interactive drama to encourage learning, and use their extensive industry experience to discuss how these concepts can be effectively established.

Alongside these, there will be presentations by the Chief Medical Officer at the Health & Safety Laboratory about the causes and potential solutions for respiratory ill health, as well as many more covering a diverse range of topics and concerns.
