HST & AquAid provide safe, clean water for villagers in Zimbabwe
Last year, Health & Safety Training invested in new water coolers to keep our staff and learners hydrated, refreshed and ready for a productive day.
The company we chose to supply these for us, Aquaid, don’t just provide the products and services we need however, they also have a rather special mission; for every cooler installed, a donation is made to The Africa Charity.
The Africa Charity was established to provide sustainable solutions to the people of Africa, and one of these solutions is the building of Elephant Pumps, to supply fresh, clean water. Here at Health and Safety Training, we are very proud that our donations have allowed The Africa Charity to build a brand new pump, in Manicaland, a north-eastern province of Zimbabwe.
The pump, named after our MD’s wife, Carla Christie, is built to a 2000 year-old Chinese design. The design was modified to make it stronger and more durable, and ensure it can be built easily using materials that are locally available, giving the community a greater sense of ownership. Once installation is complete, a few members of the community are trained to be Pump Minders, so they can maintain and repair the pump.
The Carla Christie pump will help to improve the quality of life for those living nearby, providing them and their families with safe, clean drinking water. There are more than a billion people around the world that do not have access to clean water, something that we take for granted, so we are grateful to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.
We wouldn’t have been able to help Aquaid if it wasn’t for the support of our staff, our learners and the companies that come back to us time and time again for all of their training requirements. As a result we can share our success with people most in need.
