The Best Truck Stops for HGV Drivers in the UK

As an HGV driver, when you’re out on a long haul journey, nice places to rest your legs are scarce. Even more scarce are places with great food, facilities and entertainment all under one roof. But don’t worry, we’re here to help you find them.

This month, we’re going to compile a list of our personal top-five truck stops for HGV drivers across the UK, so if you ever find yourself passing through one of these places on a particular leg of a journey, you’ll know you’re in for a treat.

Formula Services – Ellesmere Port

Winner of Truck Stop of the Year 2018, Formula Services at Ellesmere Port is certainly a place to consider if you’re passing through. A large space packed with features, Formula Services has everything you might need and more as an HGV driver, including:

Just a minute and a half from J16 on the M1, the Red Lion in Northampton is a great little truck stop. As the name suggests, it’s actually a pub as well as a truck stop, which means three things: great food, a homely atmosphere and, of course, nice beer! However, Red Lion still has everything you would hope from a quality truck stop, including perimeter security and quality shower facilities, so you can truly relax with your visit.

Route 74 – South Lanarkshire, Scotland

Found yourself up in Scotland? Get yourself over to Route 74, just off J10 on the M74. One of the standout features of this truck stop is that you can pre-book your parking spot online. This way, you don’t have to worry about veering off course on a whim only to find the place is full!

Newcott Fish & Chips – Market Drayton

Here’s a wildcard to finish off the list: Newcott Fish & Chips, just off the A41 in Market Drayton. If you use the A41 to get between Liverpool, the Midlands and the South this could be the place for you – especially if you love a good chippy!

As it’s a fish and chip shop, the facilities are understandably limited, but there’s a certain charm to its simplicity. They’ve recently installed showers for drivers and there’s overnight parking too, so if you find yourself passing through, definitely give it a shot.
