Following successful completion the learner will be able to:
- Operators of Mobile Elevator Work Platforms (boom and scissors lifts) will be able to identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
- Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation.
- Explain all relevant documentation.
- Explain all displayed information on the machine.
- Carry out pre-use and running checks.
- Carry out emergency lowering procedures.
- Operate controls from ground level and from within the working platform.
- Manoeuvre the MEWP involving tight turns and limited access, using both forward and reverse motions.
- Travel the machine with platform in a raised position
- Position the platform up to maximum working height.
- Position the platform to maximum reach
- Keep within safe working parameters.
- Place the machine in and out of service condition.
- Be able to explain the loading and unloading procedure on and off a transporter.

Accreditation upon completion
Successful learners will receive an operator’s ID card and certificate from the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) and their details will be registered onto the NPORS UK database.
