Following successful completion the learner will be able to:
- Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
- Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources and applicable legislation.
- Carry out pre-use and running checks.
- Configure the excavator for site travel.
- Travel over various types of applications and terrains.
- Manoeuvre in confined spaces.
- Set the machine to excavate.
- Excavate below ground level on a variety of excavations in different ground types.
- Place spoil into various sizes of vehicle/hoppers.
- Grade, spread and level different types of terrain.
- Remove and reattach buckets.
- Place the machine in and out of service condition.
- Be able to explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter.

Accreditation upon completion
Successful learners will receive an operator’s ID card and certificate from the National Plant Operators Registration Schemes (NPORS) and their details will be registered onto the NPORS UK database.
