Following successful completion the learner will be able to:
- Identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges.
- Identify and comply with manufacturers’ instructions and explain all relevant documentation.
- Carry out pre-use and running checks.
- Configure for site and road travel.
- Travel with the forklift truck, both with and without loads.
- Manoeuvre in confined spaced areas.
- Set in order to lift various loads within the full working range of the forklift truck.
- Ensure load integrity and security.
- Transport loads.
- Place and retrieve loads accurately from various points and from vehicle bed or trailer.
- Explain precautions to be taken for overhead services and other hazards.
- Keep within safe working parameters.
- Place the machine in and out of service condition.

Accreditation upon completion
Successful learners will receive an operator’s ID card and certificate from the Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB) and their details will be registered onto the RTITB’s UK database. Accreditation also available from the National Plant Operators Registration Schemes (NPORS).
