Government Funded training

Full & part Funded training available to businesses

Health & Safety Training Ltd are a government approved training provider and we can offer fully funded NVQ training programs to employers wishing to have their staff trained in the following fields;

Forklift Truck NVQ Training Courses

General Plant NVQ Training Courses

We are able to offer funding to employers to train their staff via way of a NVQ training program that can normally be funded by the Learning & Skills Council (LSC), European Social Fund (ESF) or via our partnership with Tyne Metropolitan College, one of the largest providers of Further Education in the region. We are also able to help you obtain funding from  Business Link North East.

An NVQ is a much more creditable form of training, assessment and certification for someone seeking accreditation in a particular field, especially in the operation of plant and machinery, as it is carried out over a more prolonged period of time than a training course and is much more in depth. Areas such as workplace efficiency, general health & safety, accident and emergency procedures, fire safety awareness and site security are covered in addition to basic plant operations. We are an accredited NVQ training centre and deliver around 800 NVQ level 2 awards a year both at employer’s premises throughout England and at our training centre. Our Plant Operations can cover any of the machines or vehicles listed above.

Our NVQ procedure works as follows:

Prior to the commencement of the NVQ training program an induction will be carried out to enroll each learner onto the program and to establish if they have any previous experience, this helps us decide the amount of basic training that is required. A date for basic training will then be booked and during this training the initial part of NVQ assessment and observation will be carried out. After completion of basic training and initial assessment our assessor will arrange to return to visit the learner usually within 6 weeks to assess and observe them “on the job” .This can often be done in one visit lasting approx 1 to 2 hours per learner. During each visit we will build a portfolio covering all aspects of the job the candidate is doing, i.e. forklift truck operation, including the health and safety, risk assessment and general housekeeping aspects of the job. Once the assessor is satisfied the candidate is able to achieve a full NVQ award then we would have the portfolio internally verified for authenticity and soon after successful verification a full NVQ award certificate is presented. The whole process can take as little as 10 weeks from start to finish and will normally entail the basic training period and a further 1 or 2 assessment visits. Training certification is applied for immediately after basic training is completed and the NVQ is awarded following successful internal verification of the NVQ portfolio.

An indication of the average timescale & process for a typical plant operation NVQ is outlined below;

All paperwork relating to the funding is handled on your behalf by Health & Safety Training Ltd There are currently no registration fees attached to the majority of these NVQ programs making this training completely free of charge,(some types of NVQ program do have a small registration fee attached). In some instances employers can receive payment of wage compensation to cover the time trainees have to spend away from the workplace.

Places on all funded programs are limited and subject to conditions, availability and eligibility Depending on the type of funding available the course is either free, or is subject to registration fees only or is part funded only.
